Belmont House, Unst, Shetland is now complete and has been awarded both a Silver Award at the Roses Design Awards in Manchester for the "Re-use of a Listed Building Category" and a Shetland Environmental Award. At the latter the judging panel commented:  “This is an excellent example of the sustainable reuse of an important piece of Shetland’s built heritage. The extensive use of reclaimed materials is admirable, as is the sympathetic restoration using traditional building techniques. The project is also providing local employment, both during and post restoration”.

The phased works at Belmont have previously been awarded the prestigious Georgian Group Award for “Restoration of a Georgian Country House”  in 2007 on completion of the second phase of external works.

Groves-Raines Architects have worked on Belmont since 2003 with Phase I going on site in 2005. Putting the house back together has proved a painstaking process but one which to which Shetland Amenity Trust  workforce gave absolute conviction.
