Gunnar Groves-Raines, BSc/AS (Hons) MArch - Director
Born in Edinburgh to two Architect parents, Gunnar's passion for design and construction was nurtured and encouraged from an early age. After working at Groves-Raines Architects in Edinburgh, Gunnar moved to Glasgow to study Architecture at the University of Strathclyde, where he later completed his Master's in Advanced Architectural Design with distinction. During his postgraduate studies Gunnar worked with Stuart Falconer and Steven Orr to produce a body of work which focused on the long term regeneration of Cumbernauld. The project was nominated for the RIBA Presidents Medal, the Archiprix prize for the Worlds Best Graduation Projects and was commended at the Scottish Design Awards in 2006. Following the success of this collaboration and with the generous support of Groves-Raines Architects, the trio formed GRAS in 2006.
Gunnar has received awards and nominations from the Glasgow Institute of Architects, the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland, the Royal Institute of British Architects, Archiprix International and the Scottish Design Awards 08, including a commendation in the Emerging Architect of the Year category.
